We are sorry to inform you that Jubilee Montessori will be closing at the end of June, 2023.

Our Program Values

Our Way of Learning

The 2.5 years to 6 years (Casa) program at Jubilee Montessori offers young children a friendly and inclusive environment that promotes discovery, self initiation, and concentration. The activities available to the children are intentionally designed to build skills and understanding through exploration, repetition, and practice.

Through mindful speech and deliberate physical movement the teacher and assistant clearly demonstrate expected classroom and interpersonal behaviours. Your child selects their activity, prepares her workspace, and completes the lesson at her own pace, moving on only when she is ready. Developmentally appropriate tasks and activities allow your child to explore properties of: size, quantity, volume, weight, and proportion. Other tasks build recognition of letters, sounds, and language. Still others build fine and large motor skills.

All activities have built in opportunity for social interaction, care of self, others and environment. Freedom to stay with activities for lengthy periods enables children to develop and experience deep concentration. Through success they build confidence and self esteem. Through sharing with peers they build leadership and collaboration skills.

We are raising global citizens. Learning to recycle, reduce and reuse is paramount. We grow and care for plants indoors and out in our gardens. We sew seeds, consider climate change and much more. Montessori values peace education which is inherent in our classroom developing attitudes, skills, and behaviours to live in harmony with oneself, others and the natural environment.

The Montessori classroom is organised into five main curriculum areas: Practical Life, Sensorial,Language, Mathematics and Culture.

Practical Life

Children are intensely interested in purposeful activity, and through real activity such as pouring, tonging, spooning, polishing, preparing food, sweeping, and putting away after each exercise the children develop coordination, concentration and how to care for themselves, their environment and for others.

Imaginative Play

Our programs are designed to engage imagination.

With real life, concrete experiences such as stories, Music and movement including finger plays and drama. Time engaged at the farm table, nature table or while using an interactive diorama.

During our outside time children really explore their imaginations while in full character maybe as a firefighter or chef.

Art Appreciation

Every child is an artist.

Our school has a large area dedicated to art. Some of the art materials change each month while others, like the art easel are constant fixtures. We offer experience with colour, texture, shapes and lines. Cutting, gluing and colouring are part of student’s daily activities. This bright, spacious, social area is shared with Practical life materials where children daily gain experience while using their developing fine motor/muscle skills in our free choice classroom.

Children are introduced to some of the great artists. They learn to use different strokes such as the long lines while painting an Emily Carr’s cedar,  the swirling motions in a Van Gogh, or recreating a Monet and gaining his appreciation of flowers. Children enjoy the techniques of art and have ample opportunities to create.

Sensorial

Young children engage all their senses to make order of the world.

For example, by using materials such as a sphere, cube, different lengths of rods or fitting cylinders of different sizes into holes children begin to order their perceptions of size and space.

Materials are designed to appeal to a child’s desire to touch, manipulate, and move, children develop and refine their sensory powers of smell, taste, hearing, touch, sight and perceptions of size, space, and volume. This is the foundation for an understanding of geometry, mathematical concepts, and physics.

Language

The focus of language permeates our program.

We enhance the environment by naturally making connections of sound, rhymes and phonetics. Pre-literacy begins by pairing, grouping, sorting, using hands on manipulatives and other appealing activities.

Materials to indirectly prepare the hand to write while using the ‘SandPaper Letters’ or ‘Metal Insets’ developing muscle memory. Inspired by the presented materials, basic skills in encoding and decoding allows children to link sounds and letter symbols.

Effortlessly the child is progressing to expressing their thoughts through writing and experiencing the world through reading.

Mathematics

At this stage of development, children are concrete thinkers who are establishing order in the world. Again, specialised materials are designed to appeal and support understanding of concepts such as quantity and patterns.

Using these concrete materials offers a child to work with abstract concepts of operations, squares and cubes, fractions, and geometry.

Cultural

Subjects include: geography, botany, zoology, science, art, and history. This area is extremely rich and varied, it is presented through real life experiences at: the Nature table, Terrariums while periodically homing: snails, ants, frogs and butterflies and outside in nature.

Plenty of photographs, maps, globes, flags, cultural items and souvenirs and stories are used to introduce children to our community, environment and the cultures in our world.

About Us

We offer a child-centered educational approach.

Jubilee Montessori program is based on the strong foundation of Dr. Maria Montessori’s philosophy to provide exceptional learning opportunities in a prepared environment.

Our teachers are Early Childhood Educators with Montessori training and experience. We are committed to nurture, guide, build positive self-esteem and empower our students in their critical learning years. Our teachers continue their professional development by attending workshops, training sessions and personal growth.
